Workshop & Training

A moderate sized healthcare support service that supports the healthcare management of state and Federal government healthcare recipients became concerned that members of it large population of case managers were not as prepared as they needed to be to respond to the culturally distinctive differences that existed in the population of clients they served. Moreover, because the population would be increasingly pluralistic, there was an added concern that case managers (social workers and registered nurses) were informed and empowered to respond appropriately to the cultural differences they will need to manage.

Challenge

Designing a high impact, one-day, and customized learning experience for these case managers that would respond to the broad spectrum of clients served and take account of the existing professional expertise and exposure of the case managers in managing diversity.

Action

We designed, developed and facilitated a 1-day, experientially-based cultural diversity training program for case managers and their supervisors on the impact of diversity and the skills needed to communicate with, respond to and manage cross-cultural communications and relationships.

Action Planning

As a consequence of active involvement in this learning experience, participants will:

All of the training programs designed by the Institute for Human Development, Inc. focus on ways to Turn Knowledge into Performance. During our training workshop, our job is to orchestrate the learning process so that learning happens.

In this regard, to ensure that each leader takes away what he or she needs to get to their next growth level, we have created a process for each leader to plan how they will implement their new leadership skills. This will be done during class time.

This “Leadership Action Plan” will concentrate on the critical steps each person needs and will commit to take to become a more effective leader on their first day back on the job.
