BERNARD E. ROBINSON, C.M.C.
Human Systems Development Consultant

Bernard E. Robinson is an experienced leadership development and business coach and team trainer. He specializes in helping managers examine their leadership practices and heighten their personal mastery of the “art of leadership.” He focuses on providing custom-fitted coaching guidance that challenges managers to deepen their understanding of leadership and enhance their capacity to perform as a high-impact leader. His philosophy of leadership and his work seeks to promote the use of behaviors that enable leaders to push through performance roadblocks and apply principles, practices and disciplines that improve their performance and the quality of the workplace societies that they are entrusted to develop and lead.

Current and former leadership coaching clients and assignments have been in both public and private organizations. For nearly 23 years, Bernard has headed The Institute for Human Development, Inc., a national management consulting firm. The Institute has worked with such companies as the World Bank, Apple Computer, Prudential Insurance Company, Foundation Coal Corporation, Erickson Communities, National Trust for Historic Preservation, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, DC Health Care Association, U.S. Department’s Agriculture, Housing and Urban Development and Transportation and the Graduate School.

Over the past 23 years, Bernard has helped organizations identify, respond to and manage operational, organizational and performance challenges associated with change and marketplace competition. He and the Institute have managed large and varied projects and organization-wide interventions including organizational studies, team building, strategic planning and team building/action planning retreats. His company has facilitated performance improvement forums for more than 26,000 participants.

Before establishing the Institute, Bernard worked for 20 years with the Federal government. He is a former training manager and senior trainer, with the Arlington County Government and the Washington Hospital Center, respectively. Bernard has developed numerous, organization-wide employee/ management development programs.

While the Institute continues to provide an array of services that leverage its experience and expertise, it has aligned its product and service focus on four areas: Change, Leadership, Team Development, and Strategic Planning. Bernard is a Certified Management Consultant (CMC). This certification is awarded by the Institute of Management Consultants USA, Inc. to consultants who meet high standards of education, experience, competence, professionalism and ethics as a management consultant. The CMC is held by less than 1% of consultants. Finally, Bernard and the Institute have been selected as one of the recipients of the 2010 Top 100 Minority Business Enterprise Awards. It is a regional awards program honoring outstanding women and minority business owners in Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Delaware and the District of Columbia for success and innovation in the business, involvement in professional and business organizations and breadth of community involvement.
